PNM Guide to Recruitment

Letter from PHA VP of Recruitment

Dear Potential New Member,

Being a member of a sorority can change your life during and after college in so many ways. Not only are you able to develop some of the closest friendships imaginable with some of the most amazing people, but you also have endless opportunities for leadership, service, academic success, social development, and personal growth. The Panhellenic Association at the University of Maryland is an extraordinary group of people, devoted to upholding the values of Community, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. In our PHA, we strive for excellence and continuous growth. We recognize the discriminatory history Greek Life organizations have and are working very hard to be transparent and combat these issues throughout the whole community. It is a place where people can truly be themselves, anyone is welcome, and you can smile everyday.

Now you may be thinking, “hmmm I’m not sure if I believe her.” Which is TOTALLY valid! But, take it from me, someone who needed her mom to practically force her to go through Recruitment and has now lived with eight different women from my sorority, is running PHA recruitment, and couldn’t imagine life without it.

You may be nervous, which is completely normal, but I encourage you to remember to be yourself and enjoy all that Recruitment has to offer! You will meet so many great people and truly have one of a kind experiences.

This community has made me better and the person I am today. I can’t wait for you to (hopefully!) embark on the journey as well.

I am here to guide you and support you with whatever you need. Please feel free to email me at any time at if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns. I would be more than happy to help!

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful Recruitment process!

Julie Hirsch
